Hi Valerie-
I've been meaning to comment for a while! I'm a (fairly) new professor at FIT – I'm a visual artist who teaches painting and drawing in the Fine Arts Department.
The exhibitions at the Museum at FIT continue to be so compelling. Japan Fashion Now is full of ideas, as was Gothic, which was a real knockout.
I started looking at your blog recently, and you mention two artists I've been thinking about a lot recently: Charles LeDray and Nick Cave. I was so pleased to see you talking about their work. Yes, the Charles LeDray retrospective at the Whitney Museum was really inspiring. And about two months ago I saw an exquisite Nice Cave piece at the Brooklyn Museum in a show of work from their permanent collection.
A common day-dreaming topic for me is making lists of artists whose work together would create interesting exhibitions. Mind if I share my wish list for an exhibition about artists whose work uses the structure of “the garment”? You've probably thought of this all before, but here it goes...
-Nick Cave
-Charles LeDray
-Yinka Shonibare
-Mimi Smith
-Andrea Zittel
-Nayland Blake
-Beverly Semmes

Hope to meet you some day at FIT!
